Is There a Unification Title Match In the Divas’ Future?

Last night at WWE Summerslam, Melina defeated Alicia Fox to capture the Divas Championship. In the midst of celebrating the win, self-proclaimed “Co-Women’s Champions” Michelle McCool and Layla came out to join in the moment. Melina didn’t appreciate it, and in the midst of a brawl was taken down by Team LayCool. It seems to me that this could be the possible beginning of a Title Unification Match at the next pay per view, Night Of Champions. Here’s my reasons why I think it should happen, and who the participants should be.

1.) The Divas Roster is thin. It’s been obvious in the past year so far that the Divas Roster on both shows is seriously lacking in giving the crowds and fans any real entertainment/competition. The majority of the Divas are either too green, injured, not wrestling, or simply not over.

On RAW, the WWE attempted a big push in both Eve and Alicia Fox while Melina was out to no success, which completely explains the quick timing in which both became champions. Maryse seems to be the only solidly recognized heel, and she hasn’t been wrestling much due to the push with Ted DiBiase. The WWE seems to be unwilling to give Gail Kim a real solid push as well, and with Natalya’s place as valet/manager of The Hart Dynasty, she hasn’t been pushed as a wrestler either.

Creative Plans for Raw Women’s Division

Melina made her return to WWE programming during Monday’s television taping in San Antonio, Texas. She performed a run-in following a Six-Diva Tag Match pitting Alicia Fox, Jillian and Tamina against Eve, Gail Kim and Natalya, attacking the Divas Champion. Her return will be televised during next Monday’s episode of Raw.

It was her first appearance inside a WWE ring since she underwent surgery for a torn ACL suffered last December. She spent the past few weeks at the company’s developmental facility in Tampa, Florida training for her return.

WWE creative brass initially planned on inserting Melina into the ongoing John Morrison vs. Ted DiBiase program as means to feature mixed tag matches, but said plans were nixed last week. Instead, she will going after Fox’s Divas Championship. A three-way feud between Melina, Fox and Eve is tentatively planned, though Maryse may be put in the mix.

Meanwhile, Maryse and DiBiase’s “power couple” placement is an offshoot of plans initially tapped for the French beauty and The Miz last year. Plans were changed when Maryse took a hiatus to recover from knee surgery and Miz got over well enough with the audience that she was no longer needed by his side. Maryse was ultimately placed with DiBiase in an effort to get him over.

The Fink Dislikes Eve?

Monday’s RAW saw Eve Torres become the No. 1 contender to Alicia Fox’s Divas Championship as a result of her victory over Maryse. Immediately following the bout, Howard Finkel expressed his disapproval for the RAW Divas division, and more specifically, the new No. 1 contender. “I have had it with the Raw Diva division,” the WWE Hall of Famer remarked during the live RAW chat on WWEUniverse.com. He added, “I DO NOT hate Divas…..I am not a fan of who is the # 1 contender.”

Money in the Bank Preview

Preview:Divas Champion Alicia Fox vs. Eve
July 18, 2010

Divas Champion Alicia Fox has been determined to hold onto the attention of the WWE Universe as well as her title, even if it means faking injuries to “outfox” her opponents in the process. But it remains to be seen if the cunning Diva’s acting chops will be of any use at Money in the Bank, when she defends the Divas title against Eve.

These two contentious Divas have collided several times in the past, but it was Eve’s Divas Championship rematch on the July 5 edition of Raw that raised the temperature of this already heated rivalry. Using a feigned ankle injury to prey on Eve’s sympathies, Alicia was able to steal a victory from the Jiu-Jitsu expert. This didn’t sit well with Eve, and it certainly didn’t sit well with the anonymous Raw General Manager. Via e-mail to Michael Cole, the GM decreed that due to Alicia’s despicable act of deception, she would defend her title against Eve yet again at Money in the Bank.

Can Alicia – who won the title at Fatal 4-Way – steal yet another victory at Money in the Bank? Or can the WWE Universe “bank” on a second Divas Championship reign for the sexy, smart and powerful Eve? Find out this Sunday, only on pay-per-view.

Eve Torres talks MMA, development

When we last left our heroine, Eve Torres, she was headed into the Fatal Four Way pay per view in June [Eve readies herself for Fatal Four Way]. She was the Diva’s Champion and riding high as Raw’s top female competitor.

At the PPV, however, Torres dropped the belt to Alicia Fox and in subsequent bouts was unable to bring the belt back home. She gets another chance this Sunday at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view to regain the title.

The setback, however, was one that Torres will inevitably take in stride. After all, the people that brought her into fight sports know the hard road of wins and losses very well.

WWE: Divas Division in Disarray

What in the world is going on with the Divas? They are a hitting a new low, week in and week out, and all we can do is hope that Beth Phoenix or Melina come back to action sooner rather than later. While this decline has been going on for years (and especially within the last few months since Mickie James was released by the company), the large problems seem to hit constant lows.

There are no real feuds going on at the moment. Of course, we have a Diva winning a title and then losing it to another Diva. Then, the two have a few matches and the action goes back and forth for a month or two. Following that routine, we have a new batch of Divas doing the same thing over and over.

At the very least, and I still object to this, but at the end of the Mickie James era, we had “Piggie James.” This was a low in the Divas Division, but at LEAST it was a feud. Can anyone think of a feud worth remembering since then?

Maryse and Alicia Fox have been going at it for the Divas Championship. Oh wait, wasn’t it Eve Torres who was the Divas champ? We can’t forget about her, so WWE just throws her into matches from time to time.

It is clear the WWE isn’t sure who to root for, making the fans clueless as well. Divas are just thrown together in matches without any thought put into them. It’s as if they are told, “Here, just go out there and look pretty.”

Not only do we have two different titles for women, we have a co-Womens champions. We have a mini stable called LayCool that WWE likes to keep around, and since there are no tag teams in the Divas Division, they decided to put belts on both women.

This only weakens the Women’s Championship. What if WWE decided to have WWE co-Championship? This would just confuse everybody.

Now that Michelle McCool is married to the Undertaker, I expect her to be a champion for quite some time.

If you marry someone high in the business you will be in the spotlight. Just look at Triple H as an example. I just hope WWE uses McCool wisely and doesn’t just throw her in random matches that have no meaning.

Come on, WWE, give me something worth watching.

My guess is that LayCool will stick around much longer than we care to see. With top stars injured or having been recently released, there seems to be little hope for the future of the Women’s Division.

WWE is trying to make new Diva stars, but with the lack of real feuds or any clear direction, this seems to be a lost cause.

The 15 Hottest WWE Divas of All Time

One of the most popular Divas today has to be Eve.

She is a former Diva’s Champion and I feel she is a great athlete who will make waves in the WWE for years.

She can wrestle, has mic skills, and looks. If that ain’t a top diva I don’t know what is.

Fatal 4 Way Preview

When Eve, Gail Kim, Maryse and Alicia Fox get together at Fatal 4-Way this Sunday, the sexy, smart and powerful women will be kicking, hitting and battling it out like brides-to-be at a wedding dress clearance sale. The big prize, however, isn’t a bronzed groom, it’s a golden butterfly – the Divas Title.

While Eve currently reigns as Divas Champion, her nagging nemesis, Maryse, has been pining for the title ever since the two separated in February. During the Viewer’s Choice Diva Battle Royal, the conceited Canadian sharpened her attack against Eve by enlisting the help of Jillian. After punishing the current Divas Champion, the Monday Night Mean Girl heaved her from the ring – along with Jillian – to prevail and send a clear message: She wants to reconcile with the Butterfly Title.

For their part, Kim – herself a former Women’s Champion – and Fox seem to have grown tired of playing the part of bridesmaid. While each has provided a strong tag team partner for Eve and Maryse, respectively, they both now appear eager to take center stage and walk down the aisle with a victory.

Be sure to catch all the action live June 20 at 8/7 CT, only on pay-per-view.

Eve readies herself for Fatal Four Way

WWE’s newest pay-per-view carries a unique format that has left many people guessing as to who will be wearing the gold at the end of the night.

Fatal-Four-Way takes place Sunday, and with three opponents, each title holder will be entering the ring with more risk of losing their titles than usual.

Among those champs who put their coveted straps on the line is Eve Torres, one of WWE’s most popular female competitors. Eve, who’s been the Divas champ for a few months, squares off against fellow Raw vixens Maryse, Alicia Fox and Gail Kim.
